Our Lineage
Our training is directly linked to the teachings of Morihei Ueshiba (the founder of Aikido). We promote the Founder’s traditional teaching and training methods as passed on by his longest direct disciple, Morihiro Saito Shihan. Read about our lineage here.
Barry Tuchfeld Sensei, Dojo Cho
Barry Tuchfeld Sensei holds the rank of Sandan (3rd degree Black Belt) in Aikido and conducts leadership seminars using principles from Aikido. He has trained for over 18 years in Aikido, including direct training with Saito Sensei in Iwama, Japan. He is a member of Takemusu Aikido Association and trains regularly with Hans Goto Sensei in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is a Certified Aikido Instructor (Fukushidoin).
Barry Sensei has a Ph.D. in sociology (from the University of Tennessee Knoxville) with an emphasis on social psychology and organizational dynamics. His work focuses on personal development and conflict management. He has worked as a personal development coach and has consulted for over 30 years with multinational corporations, small businesses, government, and nonprofit groups. He has also directed local, regional, and national applied research projects. Recent clients include Levi Straus & Co., the Institute for the Future of Work, Agilent Corporation, Herman-Miller Corporation, and the Life Learning Center (in California).
In addition to his consulting practice, Barry Sensei is an adjunct professor with Argosy University. He was also an Associate Professor and Founding Director of the Center for Organizational Research at Texas Christian University (Ft. Worth, TX) and has taught at the University of San Francisco.
