Miles  Sensei (5th Dan) is an internationally recognized teacher of Aikido, Vipassana Meditation, and Integral Practice.

As a dual lineage holder in the Iwama tradition of Aikido and the Mahasi tradition on meditation, Miles Sensei is known for building on his solid base of Aikido, Vipassna Meditation, and Integral Practice and creatively unlocking the potential Aikido holds for the evolution of the individual, of the art, and our world.

Miles Sensei will be coming to Sarasota from a 4 day retreat in Joshua Tree, California  ( http://aikidoretreat.com/ ) focused on Evolutionary Aikido.

In 1989 Miles moved to Japan, living there for 8 years committed to aikido training at the famous “Iwama Dojo” of Aikido’s founder, O Sensei.  He trained solely under the guidance of the late Morihiro Saito Sensei, and Hitohiro Saito Sensei, including one year as “uchi-deshi” (live-in apprentice). While in Japan Miles taught Aikido as cheif instructor of the “Mito International Aikido Club”, and the “Ibaraki Social Welfare Aikido Club” for 3 years under the supervision of Morihiro Saito Sensei. Upon leaving Japan in 1997 Miles began teaching internationally in Asia, New Zealand, Europe, the Mid-East and the United States.

Since 1998 Miles has been a practitioner of Vipassana meditation, having spent a total of 3 years on intensive meditation retreats at Panditarama Meditation Centers in Burma and Nepal. He completed his formal Vipassana training under the guidance of Sayadaws U Pandita, and U Vivekananda.

Miles came into contact with the “Integral” movement through the work of Ken Wilber.  Wilber’s brilliant way of mapping out the world helped Miles explore ways to transform and “upgrade” the traditional practices of Aikido and meditation into Integral practices for the modern, and post-modern world. Miles is an Integral student of Diane Musho Hamilton Sensei and he has studied “Big Mind” facilitation under Genpo Roshi.

In 2005 Miles moved to Israel and founded the “Integral Dojo”, a full time Aikido, meditation, and Integral practice community. Miles Kessler Sensei regularly leads Integral Aikido seminars and Integral Meditation retreats in Europe and the U.S.
In 206 Miles founded the non-profit organization “Aikido Without Borders” for bringing Israelis and Palestinians together to build ties and mitigate conflict through the practice of Aikido. Miles is also recognized for having developed Aikido instructional “Apps” for iPhone and Android operating systems that cover the full range of open-handed, Aiki-ken, and Aiki-jo, techniques.

He lives in Tel Aviv, Israel with his wife Maya and their baby daughter, Yoel.
